Sciences Po Bordeaux (Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Bordeaux) and the CNRS (Centre national de la recherche scientifique) invite applications for a full time tenure track Assistant Professor (maître de conferences) beginning September 1, 2010 in quantitative political analysis and comparative politics. We seek to hire an outstanding young political scientist for this joint Sciences Po - CNRS position.The successful candidate, jointly selected by Sciences Po Bordeaux and the CNRS, will be recruited by Sciences Po Bordeaux as an Assistant Professor and will have a research mandate within the CNRS. This mandate will allow the successful candidate to devote the majority of his/her time to his/her research while teaching a limited number of courses (64 hours per academic year). In addition to his/her salary (nationally negotiated salary scale), the successful candidate will be eligible to research bonuses and credits.

Profile:
The successful candidate will hold a PhD in political science from a good international university or equivalent (and preferably hold teaching experience in the social sciences). (S)he will teach both lectures and seminars to undergraduate and graduate students at Sciences Po Bordeaux in quantitative political analysis, research methods in social sciences and comparative politics. The successful candidate will also teach more specialized courses to masters and doctoral students. As the institution is a part of many international scholarly networks, the candidate must be able to teach in both French and English (balance between French and English teaching to be discussed). Working knowledge of other languages would be an asset.


Research:
The candidate will be expected to develop collective international research projects (such as those funded by the ANR - Agence Nationale de la Recherche, ERC - European Research Council, European Union FP7 - Seventh Framework Programme, etc.) in the broad research area covered by the Joint Research Unit CNRS/ Sciences Po Bordeaux – SPIRIT (Science Politique Relations Internationales Territoire)

Other information:
The successful candidate will be required to live within the Bordeaux metropolitan area.
In line with the international focus of Sciences Po Bordeaux, applications from non-French citizens are welcome. Non-French candidates who are either lecturers or researchers are not required to register on the qualification list of maîtres de conférence established by the French Ministry of Higher Education. Applications must be sent to the scientific council of Sciences Po Bordeaux.

A joint selection committee will establish a short-list of candidates on the basis of their application material and writing samples which will be evaluated by two political scientists (one from Sciences Po Bordeaux as well as one external). The short listed candidates will be interviewed on 13 April 2010.
